What is Salty?
Experienced, weathered, and somewhat cynical — the earned disposition of a long-serving veteran.
Definition
A salty service member is one who has accumulated enough experience — deployments, PCS moves, training cycles, institutional frustrations — to develop a certain knowing cynicism about military life. Salty is not primarily a negative term: a salty NCO or officer is one who has seen enough to know what actually matters, who can cut through bureaucratic noise to identify real problems.
In Dating & Relationships
A salty veteran brings hard-earned perspective to relationships — they've stopped pretending the institution is perfect, which usually means they've also stopped pretending about what they want from a partner.
