What is PCS?
Permanent Change of Station — a military relocation to a new duty station.
Definition
A Permanent Change of Station is a military order directing a service member to relocate to a new installation, usually every two to three years. PCS moves are a defining feature of military life, disrupting careers, schooling, friendships, and relationships on a regular cycle. Military families become experts at starting over: new schools, new neighbors, new unit cultures. For single service members, PCS season (spring and summer) is when long-distance relationships begin, end, or find their resolution.
In Dating & Relationships
PCS is one of the most significant relationship challenges in military life — it forces couples to either close the distance, endure long-distance, or end things entirely, often on short notice.
