What is TDY?
Temporary Duty — a short-term assignment away from home station, typically 30–179 days.
Definition
Temporary Duty (TDY) — called TAD in the Navy and Marine Corps — is an assignment to a location other than your permanent duty station for a limited period. TDY can mean anything from a two-week training course to a six-month advisory mission. Unlike a deployment, TDY may not carry full combat pay, but it still means time away from home, disrupted relationships, and a bag that stays half-packed.
In Dating & Relationships
TDY orders can disrupt relationship plans at any moment — veterans on The Rally Point understand this reality and build relationships around it rather than against it.
